The first findings traced back to the period between IX/VIII century b.c. were discovered in the city of Belluno and in Cadore around the second half of the 19th Century. One of the first settlements related to this period of time was Mel, along the river Piave.

Archeology has demonstrated that the Venetian society was born around the 12th century b.c and kept growing until the 8th century b.c. Many settlements  started to appear all over the map of Veneto, especially in areas close to big rivers like the river Po, the river Adige and also the river Piave.

Since then, the territory started to be explored and many potentials came to light. In fact  the variety of the climate and the large areas of green territories made the farmers and breeders really interested in the mountainous area.

They started almost immediately to hunt bears, wolves, deers and hares. Many domestic animals started to appear like horses and dogs used to help hunters in their research for prey.

Spinning and waving, in the ancient world were arts reserved to women who practised them widely. Since the clothes of either the men and women of Veneto were made with natural and biodegradable materials we unfortunately don’t have many traces left.

In Cadore among other objects they were able to recover a tombstone with inscriptions. In Belluno, especially in the necropolis of Caverzano they were able to recover objects including a necklace made with decorated rocks. Thus, marking a very good knowledge of early craftsmanship. The artifacts recovered from the tomb are all preserved in the civic museum of Belluno.
